Final version of playwright Alois Jirásek’s manuscript of Jan Hus
This play forms the first part of the Hussite trilogy, depicting the birth (Jan Hus), the course (Jan Žižka) and the tragic epilogue of the Hussite storms (Jan Roháč). Although Jirásek relied on his own study of historical sources, especially Petr of Mladoňovice's account of Hus's trial, his entire trilogy is based on František Palacký's concept of Hussitism. Jan Hus premiered at the National Theatre on 31 October 1911. Immediately after the premiere, the Austrian censors intervened in the text, and Jirásek was forced to change the original version.
