Libussa anthology, German translation of Karel H. Mácha’s The May
The yearbook Libussa (founded in 1846) was to become the common cultural platform of all talented writers from Bohemia regardless of nationality. In addition to reports on culture and excerpts from fiction that often drew its themes from Czech history, the yearbook also featured regular sections devoted to specialist historical articles and writers’ biographies. Occasionally it published German translations of Czech works, including the first translation by Siegfried Kapper of Karel Hynek Mácha’s Máj (May).
